On Thursday 9 April 2020, we had the privilege of Mr. Jimmy Ong , an acclaim motivator, trainer , author and coach from www.jomc.co delivering a webinar to our business partners and associates. His vast previous experience provided a real sense of credibility in breaking down our human nature reaction in coping with crisis. (Ong, 2020)

Turning to some key insights, Jimmy presented this opportunity for us to Reset our true North. There has been no known event till COVID-19 when society had a chance to pause, ponder and progress. This allow us to retune back to what matters and recrystalizing our thoughts process. Hit Reset.

The second key point he highlighted is to shut off from the concept of measuring yourself to others. Walk the path where you completely disassociate your self-esteem, self-value and self-worth by comparing to others. Ignore what people may say about you. You have nothing to prove but everything to improve.

While that has been say, Jimmy further advocated during this crisis not to set goals. Aspire with no goals. It may be perceived as counter intuitive however it does alleviate and releases us from unnecessary pressure.

In the article written by Gervais entitled How to manage your stress when the sky is falling, he suggested numerous ways to turn this stressful situation around by simply learning how to breathe properly again. Take a deep breath for ten seconds and attempt to exhale more than ten seconds. It provides us a therapeutic calmness to say the least. (Gervais, 2020) Gervais also suggested that we decide to be what type a person we wish to be today. Its not about goals or a checklist. Being human again.

Jimmy further adds that to move forward, don’t be an expert but a new beginner in something new. Take up something meaningful after resetting and learn something new and not everything.

Echoing from doing something new, it is also advisable to eat healthily and drink water to stay hydrated. Stress craves for quick fixes such as sugar, starches and salt. Reducing and balancing this consumption allows our bodies to cope better in this new isolation economy. (Gervais, 2020)

Finally, being human again means we need to continue to intentionally connect. Jimmy advises us to be kind and Gervais goes further by elaborating any intentional list to connect with people to stay inclusive in this new isolation economy.

In conclusion, the reality of this crisis is less of what needs to be done but rather what can be done in moments of uncertainty. The crux of having a good start in the maddening isolation economy of physical distancing, it starts off by hitting reset for ourselves. Once we are reset, we can than be able to inch forward. There will be more learning and turmoil ahead but eventually that will pass. Take care my fellow champions. For now #stayathome.
